Any requirement to feed the lawn in summer will be subject to a number of factors. If it was already fed in late spring then it is likely that it will cope well until autumn, without additional feed. In certain weather conditions however, like a cool and wet summer, then it could well benefit from additional feed to maintain a healthy lawn, as in all likeliness its nutrients will have been washed away during this time.

In dry periods, it is advisable to give the lawn a good soaking early morning or in the evening (when the water is more likely to soak in, rather than evaporate). This combined with your efforts in spring will help the grass root and cope with any drought.

Whilst your grass is benefiting from any sunny weather, the weeds will be too. A combined weed, feed and moss killer, or an effort to get them out by hand (removing the root as well), should help to keep them under control and help the grass to stay strong and healthy.

If you have patches of poorly growing yellow grass, it could be due to the weather, but you should also consider the possibility of lawn pests such as Chafer Grubs and Leatherjackets being present. If you see birds digging then that is often a sign of grubs being in situ. Your local garden centre should have suitable products that can be used to control a pest problem.
